Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Type 2 diabetes is a disease characterized by high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) and occurs when the body is resistant to insulin or does not produce enough. Type 2 diabetes accounts for more than nine out of ten diagnosed cases of diabetes in the US, according to the CDC.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes may include hunger, thirst, fatigue, increased urination and a tingling sensation in the hands and feet. Obesity is one of the primary causes of type 2 diabetes. Drugs used to treat the type 2 diabetes include biguanides, such as metformin, and insulins. Other mediation may include sulfonylureas, gliptins, statins and amyln analogues.
